Government charts out road map to resettle IDPs before upcoming rains: MoFA

Addis Ababa, April 15, 2021 (FBC) – Spokesperson of Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ethiopia, Ambassador Dina Mufti has today gaven the Ministry’s biweekly press briefing to the media.

During the briefing, the Ambassador Dina focused on rehabilitation and humanitarian support activities, alleged atrocities on rights violations in Tigray, political diplomacy, GERD negotiations and the Ethiopia-Sudan border dispute, among others.

Roadmap has been charted out by the government to resettle internally displaced people before the upcoming rainy season, he said on the occasion.

Humanitarian activities are underway in areas affected by manmade and natural disastrous circumstances, he said, adding that the government along with international stakeholders is addressing the need in Tigray region.

Regarding the Ethiopia-Sudan situation, Ambassador Dina quoted Deputy Prime Minister Demeke saying that it is regrettable that the international community did not openly criticize Sudan for occupying Ethiopia’s territories through the use of force.

Ethiopia urges the international community to put pressure on Sudan to come to its senses and evacuate its troops from Ethiopian territories that it has forcefully occupied since 6 Nov. 2020 while the Ethiopian army was preoccupied with the law & order operation in Tigray.

Ethiopia is ready to solve its border dispute with Sudan using existing conflict resolution mechanisms once the status quo is maintained as per the 1972 Exchange of Notes between the two that prohibits displacement and force to solve border issues till amicable solution is found.
