Gondar Completes Preparations to Welcome Tourists for Timket Holiday

Addis Ababa, January 13, 2025 (FMC) – The Gondar city administration has announced that preparations are complete to welcome thousands of local and international tourists for the upcoming Timket (Ethiopian Epiphany) festival.

The annual Timket holiday will be celebrated on January 19, 2025 by the Orthodox Tewahdo faithful across Ethiopia. Gondar, home to the renowned Fasiledes Castles – the Camelot of Africa – and other heritages, is set to welcome numerous guests for the vibrant celebration of the Timket festival.

Mr. Abebe Lakew, the head of the communication department of the city administration, spoke on the preparations for the holiday. He stated that all necessary preparations have been completed to welcome guests from within the country and abroad to the historic streets of one of Ethiopia’s major tourist hubs.

He emphasized that the religious and cultural traditions of the Timket celebration in Gondar provide a fascinating experience for visitors. Gondar, a city rich in architecture, painting, education, art, commerce, and civilization, has long been a symbol of modern lifestyle.

In addition to the renovation of the Fasiledes Castles, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Gondar is further developing itself through ongoing corridor development projects, as noted by the official.

Abebe also highlighted the city’s enticing investment opportunities and expressed the city administration’s readiness to welcome and support potential investors in various sectors.

He extended an invitation to local and international tourists to visit and experience the colorful and vibrant celebration of Timket.
