GOE provides 50 bil birr worth fuel subsidies over past eight months: PM Abiy
Addis Ababa, March 28, 2023 (FBC) – The House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) conducts its 11th regular session in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today.
Prime Minister Abiy has presented the Government’s 6 months report to the parliament.
In his report PM Abiy said “Ethiopia’s economy is continually growing and as our ties within the global community increase, disruptions in the global economy also affect us”.
He said the favorable policies of the government to increase the private partnership in the economy sector of the country are anticipated to drive the various sector in the country particularly the agricultural sector.
Regarding inflation the Primer said “To absorb shocks felt by lower income households due to global cost of living increases, we have provided over 50 billion birr worth of fuel subsidies and 21billion birr worth of fertilizer subsides over the past eight months”.
Through our 3rd flagship ‘DineForGenerations’ initiative, tourism sites will be developed in Geralta, Hayk, Jima, Afar, Arbaminch and Somali region the Primer said adding that two other private investments will see developments in Beninshangul Gumuz and the new South West region in efforts to expand tourism.
Abiy said that remarkable results of 6 million hectares of land farmed through cluster farming as well as 1 million hectares in the summer wheat production.
He added that there is overall growth in agriculture productivity with the need to further enhance achievements gained from the sector.
