GHACOF64 convened in Addis Ababa to issue JJAS seasonal forecast
Addis Ababa, May 24, 2023 (FBC) – The 64th Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum (GHACOF64) was convened in Addis Ababa as a hybrid event on 24th May 2023 by ICPAC in collaboration with the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services in the region and other partners to issue the June – September 2023 seasonal forecast.
The forum brought together climate services providers and users from key socio-economic sectors, governmental and non-governmental organizations, decision-makers, climate scientists, and civil society stakeholders, among others, to discuss impacts and mitigation measures for the upcoming season.
The event was organized by the Ethiopian Meteorological Institute in cooperation with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development Climate Prediction and Application Center (ICPAC).
It was attended by Ethiopia’s Minister of Water and Energy, Habtamu Itefa, the Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Meteorological Institute, Kinfe Haile-Mariam, and the stakeholders of the IGAD member states.
It is stated that the forum, held three times a year, is a platform for climate-focused research papers and panel discussions.
