GERD’s second turbine begins producing power

Addis Ababa, August 11, 2022 (FBC) – Inauguration Ceremony of power generation from the second turbine of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is taking place in the presence of high government officials at the project site.

GERD’s Unit 9 will be starting production of power with a capacity of 375 MW of electricity.

Unit 10 which was inaugurated last February is currently generating 375 MW of electricity. Combined, the two turbines will have a capacity to produce a total of 750 MW of electricity which surpasses to the output from Gibe I and II. GERD has 155m height and 1.8km length.
