GERD reaches point of no return: President

Addis Ababa, July 22, 2020 (FBC) –President Sahle-Work Zewde has congratulated Ethiopians on the occasion of the completion of the first-filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

“Today is a historic day for Ethiopia and Ethiopians. Our dreams are coming true” she said in a statement today.

“Nothing is impossible if we join hands, devoted and stand united towards a common goal,” the President added.

Ethiopia’s use of the Abbay waters offers a unique opportunity to cement cross-border cooperation between the sister countries of the region and should not be a source of distrust and rivalry.

“The dam has now reached a point of no return,” she said, adding “the filling of the dam is a great victory for all those who are endeavoring to make our region a source of peace and stability.”

It is also a great victory for the people of all the riparian countries, the President indicated.
