France commends Ethiopia’s declaration of humanitarian truce
Addis Ababa, March 26, 2022 (FBC) – France commends the Ethiopian government’s declaration of a humanitarian truce yesterday to expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid to Tigray.
In a statement the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “We have taken note of the willingness of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front to accept this truce and call on all the parties to the conflict to do likewise,”
“The establishment of this truce represents a major opportunity that must be seized by all the parties, as according to the UN, more than five million people are waiting for emergency aid in that region and humanitarian access remains very limited.”
It is important for this truce to effectively facilitate humanitarian access, and France will be monitoring the situation very closely, the statement indicates.
“France and its partners remain mobilized to assist with the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilian populations in northern Ethiopia and in all the areas affected by this conflict. We call on all the parties to the conflict to put down their weapons in line with the ceasefire and the opening of peace talks.”
