Former militants welcomed at Seraba rehab center in Amhara region

Addis Ababa, January 1, 2025 (FMC) – Former militants in Amhara region who accepted the government’s and people’s call for peace have been welcomed at Seraba Rehabilitation Training Center.

While, entering the center, the militants said that they accepted the call for peace because they realized that the people of the Amhara region suffered from the recurring conflict, death and destruction, promising that they are ready to right their wrong deeds.

Asserting that change cannot be achieved through armed combat, the former militants conveyed a message to the members of armed groups who are still operating in the region to follow a peaceful path.

Local elders and religious leaders who were present the welcoming event commended the members of armed groups’ decision to respond to the government’s call for peaceful path. They also stressed that the former militants need to fulfill the former their responsibilities in ensuring the return of peace and normalcy in the region.

For his part, the Deputy Head of the Peace and Security Bureau of the Amhara Region, Berihum Mengstu, stated that the militants who accepted the call for peace surrendered their weapons to the government at the Chilga Seraba rehabilitation camp.

He also stated that former militants will be given rehabilitation training and job opportunities will be created for them to work for the development of the people of the region.
