Former Militants in Amhara Region complete training at Burka Rehabilitation Center, ready for reintegration

Addis Ababa, January 26, 2025 (FMC) – Former militants in Amhara Region, who responded to the government’s call for peace by enrolling in the Burka Rehabilitation Center, have successfully completed their training and are now prepared for reintegration into society.

These ex-militants had previously participated in armed activities across several areas, including North Shewa, North Wollo, South Wollo, Wag Hemra, and the Oromo Community Administration Zones within the Amhara region.

Dejene Limenih, the Deputy Head of the Peace and Security Bureau of Amhara Regional State, noted that additional members of armed groups continue to join rehabilitation centers, driven by the government’s peace initiative.

The former combatants expressed their transformation towards a peaceful existence, acknowledging the destructive nature of armed struggle. They have committed to contributing positively to their communities upon reintegration.

Moreover, the training has equipped them with vital knowledge essential for their future endeavors in promoting peace and development in their communities. They encouraged others engaged in armed struggle to heed the government’s call for peace.
