Former members of armed group in Amhara Region join Burka Rehabilitation Center

Addis Ababa, December 29, 2024 (FMC) – Members of former armed groups in the Amhara Region have been received at the Burka Rehabilitation Training Center following their acceptance of the government’s call for peace.

“We chose the path of peace after realizing that our previous actions caused suffering for our community,” stated one of the former militia members.

These armed individuals, who had been involved in armed activities in locations such as North Wollo, South Wollo, North Shewa, and the Wag Hemra zones, as well as the towns of Dessie, Kombolcha, and Woldia, were welcomed by the Eastern Command of the National Defense Forces, alongside religious leaders and community elders.

While acknowledging their initial intent to support the quest by Amhara people, the former militia members expressed regret and recognized the misguided nature of their previous path.
