Former Manchester United star Luis Nani to visit Ethiopia soon

Addis Ababa, June 27, 2024 (FBC) – Former Portugal national team and Manchester United star player Luis Nani, alias, Luis Carlos Almeida da Cunha, is set to visit Ethiopia in the coming days.

The renowned forward player will be in Addis soon to attend the 80th anniversary of Mechal Sports Club as a guest of honor, according to the club’s board.

Furthermore, Nani’s sports academy is expected to sign a cooperation agreement with Mechal Sports Club.

The board of Mechal Sports Club has made a statement to the media regarding the preparations for the club’s 80th anniversary.

On this occasion, it has been stated that Louis Nani will attend the 80th anniversary of Mechal Sports Club as a guest of honor.

A few days ago, the Ambassador of Portugal to Ethiopia, Luisa Fragoso, confirmed that her embassy is making efforts for the presence of Portuguese professional athletes and other sports’ celebrities at the celebrations.

In that regard, Nani’s scheduled arrival is believed to be part of the Portuguese Embassy’s efforts to ensure the presence of Portuguese renowned sports figures at Mechal’s 80th anniversary as guests of honors and participants in several athletics competitions which will be held this weekend.

In a social media message regarding his scheduled visit to Addis Ababa, Nani disclosed that he is really happy that he will visit the East African nation.

Known for its famous sports academy that produced legendary Ethiopian sports figures including Abebe Bikila, Mechal Sports Club is celebrating its 80th anniversary this month.

Meanwhile, Mechal Football Club is also in contention to lift this year’s Ethiopian Premier League trophy. Mechal FC has collected 57 points from 28 games this season, only a point behind the league leaders Commercial Bank of Ethiopia.

If CBE FC drops points in the remaining two games and Mechal FC picks up wins in both matches, they will be crowned as league champions for the first time in the club’s football history.
