Former Ethiopian PM meets with Sierra Leone’s Chief of Electoral Commission

Addis Ababa, June 22, 2023 (FBC) – The Head of the AU Election Observation Mission (AUEOM), former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn,  met with the Chief of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh and briefed on the entire electoral preparedness to the upcoming general elections, in the promotion of transparency, fairness and objectivity

Accompanied by Emilia Mkusa, Ambassador of Namibia to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU and UNECA and the AU delegation, in Freetown, the head of AUEOM also met with Director of Governance and Conflict Prevention at the African Union Political Affairs Peace and Security, Patience Chiradza.

It is stated that the AU Election Observation Mission Received updated briefing on the current political and historical context of the 2023 Sierra Leone Elections.

The Head of Mission also met with the team of AU observers who are undertaking two-day training.

During the meeting Hailemariam Desalegn urged them to be impartial and objective during elections and emphasized the need for credibility and transparency to fully adhere to the provisions of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance.
