FM Gedion meets with the President of Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank
Addis Ababa, November 28, 2024 (FBC) — Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, met today with the President of the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Jin Liqun, at his office.
Discussions focused on strengthening the cooperation between Ethiopia and the bank, particularly on shared priorities that can facilitate this partnership.
FM Gedion briefed the AIIB President on Ethiopia’s economic reform efforts, infrastructure development initiatives, green economy projects, and ongoing renewable energy development endeavors.
The Minister also emphasized the critical role of large-scale infrastructure development projects in Ethiopia’s growth program and their strategic importance in fostering regional integration.
FM Gedion urged the bank to finance major infrastructure projects in Ethiopia, highlighting the favorable conditions for enhancing the cooperation between Ethiopia and the AIIB.
AIIB President Jin Liqun, for his part, acknowledged Ethiopia’s significant growth potential and its progress in economic development. He expressed the bank’s willingness to continue collaborating with the Ethiopian government on expanding key infrastructure networks.
The Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank, established in 2016, currently has 110 member countries, including Ethiopia.
