FM Gedion confers with Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs & Int’l Cooperation

Addis Ababa, December 24, 2024 (FMC) – State Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ali Mohamed Omar paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos, this afternoon.

The two sides exchanged views on ways of improving bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation on the maintenance of regional peace and stability, according to MFA Ethiopia.

Note that State Minister Ali Mohamed Omar led a delegation to Ethiopia to strengthen the Ankara Declaration commitment which was entered on December 11 by the leaders of the two countries.

Earlier today, the State Minister held a meeting with his Ethiopian counterpart Ambassador Mesganu Arga where they have reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment for swift implementation of the Ankara Declaration.

In a joint press briefing following the talks, the two state ministers affirmed their resolve to continue the ongoing dialogue, and work more closely on bilateral and regional issues of common interest.

Meanwhile, intelligence chiefs of the two countries have also met this morning to discuss common challenges, opportunities, and the way forward.

Intelligence cooperation between the two neighboring countries was deliberated during a meeting between the Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Service of Ethiopia (NISS), Redwan Hussein, and Abdulahi Mohammed Ali, Head of National Intelligence and Security Agency of Somalia (NISA).

As a follow-up discussion of the Ankara Declaration, intelligence chiefs vowed to move on and “keep detractors from near and afar who are bent on derailment at bay.”
