Finance Minister Ahmed Shede concludes his working visit to Brussels

Addis Ababa, March 26, 2021 (FBC) – The Finance Minister of Ethiopia, Ahmed Shede has concluded his working visit in Brussels by addressing Ethiopian community leaders on current situation in Ethiopia.

During his meeting with the Ethiopian community, he has briefed them about the current democratization process including the upcoming national elections.

The minister briefed the Ethiopian communities on the ongoing economic reforms in Ethiopia by nothing the economic reform measures being taken and the focuses of the newly launched ten year perspective plan of Ethiopia.

He also explained in details the genesis of the law enforcement operation in Tigray and efforts underway in the post operation period to address humanitarian needs of the society as well as investigation on alleged human rights violations.

Ahmed further addressed questions and comments raised by members of the community on issues of peace and security, economic reform and debt sustainability as well as fostering efforts in building a strong digital public diplomacy, and expressed gratitude for the strong support extended by the community to various national calls.

During his working visit, Ahemd Shede had fruitful exchanges with Jutta Urpilainen, Commissioner for International Partnership, Janez Lenarcic, European Union Commissioner for Crisis Management and Eamon Gilmore, European Union Special Representative for Human Rights on various bilateral and regional issues of common concern.

They all had expressed support for the efforts underway to tackle humanitarian and human rights issues in the country, especially in the post operation scenario in Tigray. The discussion was conducted in a frank and cordial spirit by noting issues to be further addressed and the need to strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership between the EU and Ethiopia.

The working visit has been fruitful in creating understandings and further strengthens cooperation with the European Union, the Ministry of Finance stated.
