Field Marshal Birhanu Jula receives South Sudan’s top military medal

Addis Ababa, March 21, 2024 (FBC) – South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit has honoured Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, the Chief of General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF), with the highest military medal of the country.

It was stated on the ceremony that the medal was bestowed upon Field Marshal Birhanu Jula in appreciation of sacrifices paid by ENDF for the freedom and sovereignty of South Sudan.

President Salva Kiir said” “Ethiopia has always been a haven for the people of South Sudan during trying times, and paid lives of thousands of her sons for our freedom.”

Ethiopia has continued its support to South Sudan in building its military capacity, President Salva Kiir Mayardit added.

Chief of General Staff of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces, top military and intelligence officers of the country and ENDF’s top military generals have attended the award ceremony held in Juba.
