Federal system embracing diversity pivotal to build a powerful country: House of Federation Speaker
Addis Ababa, December 8, 2022 (FBC) – The Speaker of the FDRE House of Federation, Agegnehu Teshager, said that the collective work started to build a federal system that respects diversity should be strengthened.
This year’s 17th Ethiopian Nationalities Day is being observed in Hawassa in the presence of the FDRE Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, other senior government officials, elders, representatives of different ethnicities, religious leaders, invited guests and residents of Hawassa city.
In his message at the event, Speaker Agegnehu said that to achieve the goal of building a a powerful country, a strong federal system that embraces and accommodates diversity should be built.
He stated that the absence of a system that embraces diversity properly in the past regimes was the reason for the conflicts and misunderstandings in Ethiopia.
The HoF Speaker indicated that the Ethiopian government has been working to implement a real federal system in the last four years in order to overcome the conflicts and misunderstandings and build a strong state.
For this reason, he said that the celebration of nationalities day has a significant role in building a powerful and united country. He also emphasized that this process should be strengthened and continued.
Agegnehu called on intellectuals, the media and all other relevant bodies to be hand and glove to ensure that diversity is treated properly and to achieve the prosperity that the country is aspiring.
He thanked all those who played their part for organizing colourful and successful event.
