FAO Chief Economist praises Ethiopia’s successes in agriculture sector
Addis Ababa, August 13, 2024 (FBC) – Minister of Agriculture, Girma Amente, today met with a delegation from the UN World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at his office.
During the meeting, he discussed Ethiopia’s upcoming National Agricultural Investment Forum & Exhibition, which will be held at the Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa from August 14 to 15, 2024.
The event aims to showcase agricultural mechanization technologies, investment opportunities, and the country’s potential, with over 500 exhibitors expected to display their products.
The Minister expressed that the forum will help investors gain a better understanding and work on various areas such as agricultural mechanization, irrigated wheat cultivation, soil health, animal fodder development, and livestock breeding. The event will be held under the theme “Utilizing the Potential of the Agricultural Sector.”
In today’s discussion, Minister Girma explained that many African countries have learned from Ethiopia’s best practices in the Green Legacy Initiative, irrigated wheat cultivation, and the “Bounty of the Basket” initiative.
On his part, FAO’s Chief Economist, Maximo Torero, acknowledged Ethiopia’s achievements in the agricultural sector as an example for other African countries.
He also reaffirmed the UN agency’s continued support for the ministry’s endeavors.
