EU, WFP reaffirm commitment to enhancing partnership with Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, January 14, 2025 (FMC) – State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, held discussions today with a joint delegation led by Maciej Popowski, EU Director General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG-ECHO), and Carl Skau, Deputy Executive Director of the WFP, at his office.

State Minister Mesganu emphasized Ethiopia’s strong commitment to its strategic partnership and cooperation with the EU and WFP. He highlighted the significant progress Ethiopia has made in providing humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and hosting over a million refugees within its borders. He underscored that humanitarian partners would only make a difference if they support and promote a broader development agenda, fostering Ethiopia’s transition towards development and self-reliance.

The delegation reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing partnership and coordination with the Ethiopian government in the areas of humanitarian support and development.
