EU keen on enhancing relations with Ethiopia: Envoy
Addis Ababa, March 14, 2023 (FBC) – The European Union (EU) is keen on enhancing its relations with Ethiopia, said Ambassador Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary General of the European Union External Action Service.
Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia met today with Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service, to discuss a wide range of bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual importance.
DPM & FM Demeke described the Ethiopian government’s various efforts to implement the Pretoria Peace Agreement. He also discussed Ethiopia’s critical role in promoting regional peace and security.
Demeke underlined Ethiopia’s commitment to the African Union led tripartite negotiations while speaking about the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
For his part, Ambassador Enrique Mora welcomed Ethiopia’s efforts to implement the Peace Agreement; including signing the Cessation of Hostilities, providing unrestricted access to humanitarian supplies, and addressing accountability through a transitional justice mechanism.
He stated that peace in Ethiopia is necessary for peace in the Horn of Africa. Finally, Ambassador Enrique said that the European Union is keen on enhancing relations with Ethiopia.
