EU committed to strengthening ties with Ethiopia: Commissioner
Addis Ababa, September 19, 2023 (FBC) – The European Union Commissioner for International Partnership, Jutta Urpilainen, said the European Union is committed to further strengthening its diplomatic ties with Ethiopia.
While conferring with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen, on the sidelines of the 78th UNGA, Jutta commended the progress that has been registered so far in consolidating peace in Ethiopia.
She also said that, as a strategic partner, the EU attaches special value to its cooperation with Ethiopia and appreciates the huge political commitment of the Ethiopian Government.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke, on his part, expressed the unwavering determination of Ethiopia to implement the peace deal and cascade the peace dividend to others.
Further, he called on the EU to financially and technically support the rehabilitation and rebuilding programs. The two sides also deliberated on regional issues of mutual interest in the Horn of Africa.
It is learned that Jutta Urpilainen will pay a visit to Ethiopia in October.
