EU Ambassador to India commends importance of AU-led negotiation to address GERD issues
Addis Ababa, April 19, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopian Ambassador to India, Tizta Mulugeta held fruitful discussions with EU Ambassador to India Ugo Astuto on the current situation in Ethiopia.
Ambassador Tizita briefed EU Ambassador to India about the recent declaration of humanitarian truce by the government of Ethiopia in a bid to ensure the free flow of humanitarian aid to people in need in Tigray region. She also appreciates the role the EU plays in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need and urges the EU and the international community to influence the TPLF to leave the areas they occupied in Afar and Amhara regions for the smooth flow of aid and the return of internally displaced people to their homes.
Regarding the joint report of Amnesty International and Human Right Watch Tizita reaffirmed Ethiopian government’s position to closely examine the matter further underscoring the unacceptable politically motivated report which went beyond the mandates of the organization.
Tizita also addressed the trilateral negotiations over the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), stressing Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to resume the AU-led process.
Ambassador Ugo Astuto in his part, thanked the Ambassador for the candid discussion and acknowledged the declaration of Humanitarian Truce by the Government of Ethiopia in an effort to expedite the provision of much needed humanitarian aid to people in need in the Tigray region.
He also mentioned the importance of the AU-led negotiation on GERD to hammer-out unresolved issues among the riparian states.
