Ethiopia’s tremendous success in achieving self-sufficiency in wheat makes Africa so proud: AfDB Chief

Addis Ababa, October 28, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s tremendous success in achieving self-sufficiency in wheat makes Africa so proud, Akinwumi Adesina, President of African Development Bank (AfDB), said in a message published on his social media page.

The AfDB chief asserted that during a fireside discussion with the FDRE President, Sahle-Work Zewde, at the World Food Prize event in Iowa, USA.

While commending Ethiopia’s tremendous success in achieving self-sufficiency through wheat which he said “makes Africa so proud”, Mr. Akinwumi noted that AfDB’s financing has also played its bit in achieving that success.

Ethiopia is gearing up to cultivate more than 3 million hectares of land with irrigated wheat during Ethiopia’s summer season, the Office of the Prime Minister confirmed earlier today following Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s trip to Afar region to review development initiatives and to officially launch summer wheat production in the region.
