Ethiopia’s electricity generation capacity reaches 5,200MW: EEP
Addis Ababa, May 15, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s electricity generation capacity has reached about 5,200 megawatts, the Corporate Planning Department of Ethiopian Electric Power announced.
It is indicated that EEP plans to increase the country’s electric power supply coverage to 96 percent in the next 10 years.
Maralem Amdeberhan, Manager, Power Plants Strategy & Investment of EEP’s Corporate Planning Department, stated that in the next ten years, EEP planned to generate power that can meet the needs of the ambitious economy from water, wind, solar and underground steam.
He also confirmed that, currently, Ethiopia’s electricity generation capacity has reached 5,200 megawatts.
Pointing out citizens’ rapidly growing consumption of electric power, Maralem said that EEP is undertaking its national mission by building new power plants from various renewable energy sources in order to meet such a massive electric demand.
It is also noted that EEP is working hard to provide quality and reliable power supply that will help the country achieve its development goals.
