Ethiopia’s diplomatic approach to securing sea access paves the way for regional cooperation: MP
Addis Ababa, December 21, 2024 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s diplomatic strategy of “give and take” in securing access to a sea outlet has been praised as a crucial step for fostering regional connectivity and mutual benefits.
A member of the Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Representatives, Ambassador Dina Mufti highlighted the importance of expanding Ethiopia’s access to ports to support the country’s growing economy.
The Ankara agreement that was reached between Ethiopia and Somalia last week, underscores both parties committed to “resolutely move forward in cooperation towards common prosperity” while ensuring Ethiopia’s access to the sea, said Dina as quoted by ENA.
This could be considered as a fundamental step to realize Ethiopia’s aspirations of securing access to seaport in a spirit of good neighborliness and dialogue.
Ambassador Dina emphasized that securing access to sea is not only vital for Ethiopia’s sustainable prosperity but will also bring benefits to neighboring nations.
Dina confirmed that Ethiopia is committed to strengthening its role in the region by promoting economic integration, fostering people-to-people relations, and supporting joint development initiatives.
He noted that such efforts would contribute to greater growth and development for neighboring countries with sea access.
“The development, prosperity, and stability of Ethiopia will also benefit neighboring countries,” said Ambassador Dina, underscoring the significance of regional cooperation for mutual prosperity.
