Ethiopia’s 10-Year Dev’t Plan emphasizes technology, innovation, and IP as a key policy
Addis Ababa, July 10, 2024 (FBC) – At the 65th Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), being held in Geneva, Switzerland from July 9 to July 17, 2024, Ethiopia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Offices and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew, addressed the plenary, highlighting Ethiopia’s 10-year development plan and the nation’s strategy towards Intellectual Property (IP).
In his address, Ambassador Tsegab emphasized Ethiopia’s endeavors and initiatives within the sphere of intellectual property (IP). He noted that Ethiopia’s 10-year Perspective Development Plan places a strong emphasis on technology and innovation, and IP is recognized as a pivotal policy within this framework.
At the 65th Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held in Geneva, Switzerland from July 9 to July 17, 2024, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew addressed the plenary. In his statement, Ambassador Tsegab highlighted Ethiopia’s development of an Intellectual Property (IP) Strategy, which underscores the crucial role of IP in driving economic growth and development. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding and promoting innovation and creativity to stimulate economic progress and advancement.
Furthermore, Ambassador Tsegab expressed Ethiopia’s strong interest in enhancing its cooperation with WIPO to ensure and creative works are adequately protected within the country.
During the 65th Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which took place in Geneva, Switzerland from July 9 to July 17, 2024, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew participated in the BRICS Member States coordination meeting, which occurred in parallel to the Assembly. At this meeting, representatives from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa gathered to discuss priorities within the Intellectual Property (IP) sector and to explore potential avenues for future collaboration in order to address common challenges.
