Ethiopians taking the lead in addressing climate change: Zambian Ambassador
Addis Ababa, July 5, 2024 (FBC) – Foreign Minister Taye Atske-Selassie inaugurated this year’s Foreign Ministry’s charitable community engagements with tree planting ceremony at Addis Ababa Science University Compound as part of the pre-launch event for this year’s Green Legacy Initiative campaign.
Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia to Ethiopia Rose k. Sakala, members of the diplomatic community and high level officials in tandem with the staff of the Ministry have attended the event.
The Foreign Minister welcomed Ambassador Rose K. Sakala, who joined this year’s Green Legacy Initiative under the theme “A Nation That Plants; A Generation That Sustains.”
Foreign Minister Taye Atske-Selassie inaugurated this year’s Foreign Ministry’s Charitable Community Engagements with Tree Planting Ceremony at Addis Ababa Science University Compound.
He also extended his congratulations to the people of Zambia on the occasion of their 60th Independence Day.
The Foreign Minister noted that the initiative has garnered international recognition and is perceived as a legacy that will benefit future generations since the initiatives launch in 2019.
In her remarks, Ambassador Rose K. Sakala, expressed her pleasure at attending event she described as a noble initiative. She noted that “Ethiopians are taking the lead in addressing the climate change crisis.”
She emphasized that climate change is real, as evidenced by the drought affecting various African nations, and that now is the time to take action in mitigating this global challenge.
