Ethiopians mark 87th Martyrs’ Day
Addis Ababa, February 20, 2024 (FBC) – The 87th Martyrs’ Day has been marked at Yekatit 12 Square in Addis Ababa in commemoration of innocent Ethiopians massacred by the Fascist Italy in 1937.
More than 30,000 innocent Ethiopians were killed during the massacre orchestrated by the Italian Fascist forces 86 years ago.
High level government officials including the Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie, members of the Ethiopian Patriots Association and hundreds of residents have attended the memorial event at the vicinity of Yekatit 12 Martyrs Memorial Monument in Sidist Killo locality.
Mayor Adanech Abiebie has laid wreaths of flower at the Martyrs’ Monument.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Adanech said that Ethiopian forefathers and foremothers sacrificed their lives to defend the sovereignty of Ethiopia, calling the generation to honor what was paid by the ancestors by maintaining peace and supporting ongoing development endeavors.
