Ethiopians mark 127th anniversary of Adwa Victory across all parts of the country
Addis Ababa, March 2, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopians across all parts of the nation have celebrated the 127th anniversary of the Victory of Adwa with various ceremonies.
The anniversary was particularly observed in the capital, Addis Ababa, colourfully at Meskel Square, Adwa Bridge vicinity, as well as Minilik Square.
President Sahle-Work Zewde, Speaker of House of Federation, Agegnehu Teshager, Speaker House of Peoplesโ Representatives, Tagesse Chafo, President of the Ethiopian Patriotic Association Lij Daniel Jote Mesfin, Chief of the General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, and other senior government officials have attended the celebration at Meskel Square.
Earlier in the morning, President Sahle-Work Zewde and other senior government officials have laid wrath of flower at Menelik II square in Addis Ababa in memory of the victory.
The anniversary is also being marked in all the regions and Ethiopian missions abroad and among the Ethiopians and foreign citizens of Ethiopian origin across the world.
In March 1896, 127 years ago, Ethiopians from all corners of the country marched together against the colonial Italian army and defeated it at the Battle of Adwa.
The victory of Adwa is considered as an African victory for it has been inspiring all black people across the globe to fight against the colonial oppressors.
