Ethiopians in Norway stage peaceful rally
Addis Ababa, July 16, 2020 (FBC) –Ethiopians residing in Norway staged a peaceful rally to denounce the loss of lives and properties as well as displacement of people following the killing of artist Hachalu Hundessa.
During the demonstration held in front of the Norwegian parliament, the protesters condemned the killing of the artist and called for perpetrators of the crimes to face the full enforcement of law.
Getachew Bekele, coordinator of the rally, told FBC that the demonstrators called upon the Norwegian government to support the on-going reform in Ethiopia.
They also handed over a letter detailing the aim of the demonstration to representatives of Norwegian parliament, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway and Ethiopian Ambassador to Norway.
After receiving the letter, Yorn Elizabeth, representative of the Christian Democrat Party at the Norwegian parliament said those forces who are trying to disrupt Ethiopia’s democratic, political, and economic processes by inciting ethnic-based violence are responsible for the loss of life.
She also commended the measures being taken by the government of Ethiopia against forces of destruction.
