Ethiopians in Alberta, Canada raise over CAN$140,000 for GERD
Addis Ababa, June 7, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopians living in Alberta, Canada have raised over 140,000 Canadian Dollars for the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on a single day.
The financial support has been collected through a fundraising program conducted by Alliance for GERD in Canada, Alberta Chapter that is a syndicate of Ethiopians living in Canada in partnership with Ethiopian Embassy in Canada.
The alliance which has so far raised more than CAN$25,000 for the dam construction also promised to purchase a bond with CAN$92,000 in support of construction of the mega project.
Members of the Ethiopian Diaspora Community in Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Lethbridge and Kalgari cities of Alberta Province of Canada have participated in the virtual fundraising program.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Canada, Nasise Chali extended gratitude to the members of the Ethiopian Diaspora who participated in the fundraising event calling for continued commitment for successful completion of GERD.
Ambassador Nasise said the community has so contributed more than CAN300,000 for the GERD through previous fundraising events jointly conducted by the Embassy and the Alliance.
