Ethiopian team tops the Huawei Tech4Good regional competition
Addis Ababa, July 10, 2024 (FBC) – A team of Ethiopian from several universities won first place in the Huawei Tech4Good regional competition held in Morocco, Huawei Ethiopia Office confirmed a press note sent to FBC.
The Huawei Seeds for the Future 2024 Training Program was held in Morocco (Essaouira) from July 3rd to July 9, 2024. This training involved 17 African countries (East, North, West, and Central Africa). In that regard, 10 Ethiopian students from 8 universities were given the opportunity to participate in the training.
The students have been trained in cutting-edge technology before competing in the Tech4Good global project. Students were divided into 28 groups and developed projects for competition; Team Ethiopia, which included five students, won first place, followed by Team Morocco. As a result, the two winning teams from the Tech4Good regional competition will go to China for the global final in 2025.
The project’s name is “EarlyVet”, and it focuses on technology that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to aid in the early detection of animal ailments. In their presentation, the students revealed that their plan focuses on accomplishing the second and fifteenth Sustainable United Nations goals.
Mr. Liming Ye, Huawei Ethiopia PR Director, honored team Ethiopia and stated that Huawei’s Seeds for the Future mission is to make sure that young talents have access to the necessary skillsets and mindsets to commence in a fast-changing world.
Launched by Huawei in 2008, the program seeks to develop local talent, enhance knowledge transfer, promote a greater understanding of and interest in the ICT industry, and also encourage participation in the construction of digital communities. In Ethiopia, Huawei runs this program in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
The Huawei Seeds for the Future initiative typically covers cloud computing, artificial intelligence, data analysis and visualization tools, cybersecurity, 5G, IoT, and big data. It also provides opportunities for cultural exchange and learning project management skills.
