Ethiopian partake first ever Ski Race in Dubai
Addis Ababa, June 21, 2023 (FBC) – The first ever Ethiopian Alpine Ski Race Team has participated in Dubai’s Alpine Ski Race.
According to Ethiopian Consulate in Dubai and Northern Emirates, the team includes three members, Ethiopia’s first ever Ski and Snowboard Instructor Biniam Hailmariam, Alexander Makonnen who is a Ski Race Coach and his ski racing daughter Athena Makonnen.
The team was proud to participate at a recent ski race hosted at Ski Dubai, competing against teams representing nations from around the globe, the consulate has stated.
The Ethiopian Consulate added that the Ethiopian team had a respectable result, finishing 6th out of 17, ahead of some more traditional snowsports nations such as Austria and Russia.
It said the team was honored to be invited to meet with Ambassador Aklilu Kebede, Consul General of Ethiopia, as well as other diplomats at the Ethiopian Consulate in Dubai, UAE.
It further mentioned that plans to introduce snowsport to Ethiopia, build a dry ski slope in Addis Ababa and other areas as a potential to attract investors in the area is widely discussed with the team.
Artificial ski slope is already popular in some parts of the world that allows skiing in areas without snow.
Some current Olympic skiers began their ski racing careers on these artificial slopes.
The team has finally delivered the trophy and medals it has got in the competition.
