House refers resolution postponing general election to standing committee
Addis Ababa, April 30, 2020 (FBC) –The House of Peoples Representatives (parliament) has referred a resolution postponing the country’s general election to pertinent committee.
The resolution tabled by the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) was sent to the Legal, Justice and Administration Affairs Standing Committee for further scrutiny.
Before directing it to the committee, the House endorsed the resolution with a majority vote, one against and 18 abstentions.
The election was originally planned for August 29, 2020. But following the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the NEBE proposed for the postponement of the election.
Similarly, the House approved a loan agreement signed with the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) for the implementation of the second phase national water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) program.
It further approved loan agreements signed with Korea Eximbank (KEXIM), SFD and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The funds will be used for the establishment of Adama Science and Technology University’s Center of Excellence as well as execution of Debre Markos –Mota road and low land areas livelihood improvement projects.
