Ethiopian delegation participates in ‘Africa-GCC+ Dialogue on Labour Mobility’ in Doha
Addis Ababa, May 14, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation, led by the Minister of State for Labor and Skills, Daniel Teresa, and Faisal Ali Ibrahim, the Ambassador of Ethiopia to Qatar, attended the ‘Africa-GCC+ Dialogue on Labour Mobility’ held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, from May 21 to 22, 2024.
The dialogue, which brought together ministers, senior officials, and representatives from 38 countries, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the African Union, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), aimed to create a general platform for discussion and exchange of ideas and experiences. The objective was to achieve best practices that enhance regional cooperation efforts and partnerships for mutual benefit in the area of labor mobility.
According to the Ethiopian Embassy in Doha, the event focused on the African Union’s Fair & Ethical Recruitment Strategy, underscoring the shared commitment of the participating nations to promoting ethical recruitment practices and safeguarding the rights of migrant workers. This commitment is expected to be emphasized in a Declaration issued at the conclusion of the dialogue.
The participation of the Ethiopian delegation, led by the Minister of State for Labor and Skills and the Ambassador to Qatar, demonstrates the country’s active engagement in regional dialogues and initiatives addressing the critical issue of labor migration and workforce development.
It is learned that the dialogue provided a valuable opportunity for Ethiopia to contribute to the discussions and collaborate with its regional partners on enhancing labor mobility and promoting fair and ethical recruitment practices.
