Ethiopian delegation participated in Kenya’s Nat’l Tree Planting Campaign
Addis Ababa, November 13, 2023 (FBC) – Bacha Debele, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Kenya has participated today in Kenya National Tree Planting Campaign, launched by William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya at Kiu Wetland, Makueni County.
Part of the Ethiopian Embassy delegation led by the Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Workalemahu Desta has also participated in tree planting event held at Bomas kenya.
Kenya National Tree Planting Campaign comes after the Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Interior and National Administration issued Act declaring that 13 November 2023 to be a Special Public Holiday designated for Tree Planting Nationwide in Kenya. The exercise is part of Kenya’s Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Program-Towards the Growing Fifteen (15) billion trees in the coming ten years (2023-2032).
This is more likely a follow suit to Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative which was initiated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in 2019.
The Embassy in Nairobi recalled that in 2022 the Embassy had planted over one thousand trees in Nairobi as part of the Green Legacy Initiative through which Ethiopia managed to plant over 32 billion trees across the nation in the last five consecutive years.
