Ethiopian delegation attending the 74th Session of UNHCR ExCom in Geneva

Addis Ababa, October 9, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation is attending the 74th Meeting of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (ExCom) which kicked off today in Geneva, Switzerland.

The conference kicked off today with remarks by Commissioner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr. Flippo Grandi. The ExCom will be held from October 9-13, 2023, it is learned.

Ethiopia is represented by Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) Director General Teyiba Hassen, Ethiopia’s Permanent Representative to UN organs and other international institutions in Geneva, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew, and RRS Deputy Director General Bruhtesfa Mulugeta.

RRS Program Head Zewdu Bedada and Minister Counselor Daniel Tenkir from the Permanent Mission of Ethiopia to the UN in Geneva are also part of the delegation.

On the sidelines of the high-level meeting, the RRS Director-General and her Deputy held a bilateral discussion with Julieta Valls Noyes, Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration of the United States and Deputy Asst. Sec. Elizabeth Campbell.

The two sides conferred on the resumption of food distribution and resettlement opportunities for refugees.

The high-level meeting, which continues until 13 October 2023, will deliberate on matters of shared concern and pressing issues in the entire refugee operation.
