Ethiopian Christmas colorfully celebrated in Lalibela with various religious ceremonies
Addis Ababa, January 7, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Christmas holiday celebrated colorfully in the historic city of Lalibela with various religious ceremonies.
It is to be remembered that Lalibela city, one of the historic places where Ethiopian Christmas holiday is celebrated colorfully, warmly welcomed thousands of guests recently.
Every year on January 7 (December 29th in Ethiopian Calendar), the Ethiopian Christmas holiday celebrated in the city’s monolithic churches in attendance of hundreds of thousands of Orthodox Tewahedo followers and local and international tourists.
The Amhara Region Culture and Tourism Bureau has announced that an estimated 1.8 million foreign and domestic tourists and guests are attending the holiday in Lalibela this year.
The Tourism Development Director of the bureau, Melkamu Adamu, told Fana Broadcasting Corporate that this year’s celebration of Ethiopian Christmas is critical to revive the flow of visitors and tourism that has slowed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the conflict in the last two years.
He also said that other conflict-affected areas of the Amhara region are now observing the promising return of peace.
Ambassadors and representatives of different countries based in Ethiopia have also visited the historic Lalibela city and the monolithic churches built some 900 years ago.
