Ethiopian Christians commemorate Good Friday with various religious rituals
Addis Ababa, April 22, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopian Christians have commemorated the Good Friday locally known as “Siklet” with various religious rituals across the nation.
The faithful congregated in churches since early in the morning to observe “Siklet” which marks crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Ethiopian Orthodox Christians marked the day with long fasting, intense prayers, prostration and deep contemplation remembering the pain of Jesus Christ on the cross. Ethiopian Catholics have also observed the Good Friday with prayers, prostration and other religious services across the country.
Ethiopian Orthodox Christians spend the Passion Week which is known as “Semone Himamat” in Geeze with long fasting, prayers, prostration and other rituals remembering the pain of Lord Jesus Christ.
Faithful of Ethiopian Evangelical Churches have also observed the Good Friday with various religious ceremonies in Addis Ababa other parts of the country.
