Ethiopian celebrates graduation of young students from second edition of STEM school program

Addis Ababa, August 28, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopian Airlines today announced that 28 Grade 11 students, who successfully completed the second edition of the STEM School program, have graduated this week.

The program, launched last year in collaboration with Boeing and ThinkYoung, aims to equip young individuals and educators in Ethiopia with the necessary skills for better employment opportunities.

The airline confirmed that 50% of this year’s participants are female students, demonstrating its commitment to fostering gender equality in the aviation industry. The young students have gained vital skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, which serves as a testament to the airline’s commitment to nurturing Ethiopia’s future leaders.

The STEM School program is hosted at the Ethiopian Airlines Aviation University, leveraging the expertise of the country’s flagship carrier. This collaboration ensures that students and educators benefit from the extensive knowledge and resources of the fastest-growing airline in Africa, thereby enriching their educational experience and providing them with valuable real-world insights.

The program provides students and teachers with more than 300 hours of classes and hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects. The graduation ceremony marks the end of the second edition of the program, which specifically targets underprivileged African youth, particularly women, to encourage their pursuit of higher education in STEM fields, with a special emphasis on aviation.
