Ethiopian athletes tipped to cruise through to men’s 5000m finals

Addis Ababa August 24, 2023 (FBC) – At the end of the sixth day of the 19th World Athletics Championship, the men’s 5,000 meter qualifying competition will be held later today at 8 pm in Budapest, Hungary.

The Ethiopian athletics federation confirmed that Ethiopia will be represented by Berihu Aregawi (PB 12:40:45), Yomif Kejelcha (PB 12:41:73), and Hagos Gebrehiwot (12:42:18 PB) in the semifinal race.

It is stated that the athletes were selected in tandem with their current personal best and to achieve better result collectively as a national team.

Tonight’s qualifier will be held in two separate groups where athletes who finish in the top eight from each group will advance to the finals on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

In the ongoing World Athletics Championship, Ethiopia is sitting fourth in the medals table 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.
