Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute launches 3rd AI Summer Camp 2024
Addis Ababa, July 21, 2024 (FBC) – The approval of the National Artificial Intelligence Policy by the Council of Ministers marks a significant milestone in Ethiopia’s efforts to develop AI technology, according to Worku Gachena, Director-General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII).
During the opening ceremony of the third AI Summer Camp 2024 yesterday, Worku emphasized that the policy’s approval is crucial for Ethiopia’s progress in AI. The policy was developed over two years and was approved in June. EAII has also prepared strategies and frameworks to create a conducive environment for AI development.
Worku highlighted that, in addition to developing AI technology, Ethiopia is focusing on building human resources in the field. The AI Summer Camp, which began three years ago, aims to nurture young talent and develop skilled professionals in AI technology.
The camp has seen significant growth, with 13 students accepted in the first round, 30 in the second, and now 200 in the third.
The 3rd round of Summer Camp training is the platform where the youth will be equipped with knowledge and expertise to foster their creative outlet in AI technology. The training encompasses AI basics, IoT, Robotics, Python Programming, and Machine Learning, as well as practical exercises, according to the institute.
The institute has prepared facilities and materials for the trainees, and over 40 professionals from Ethiopia and abroad will provide training.
The 200 selected trainees were chosen from 3,000 applicants. Worku urged those who received the opportunity to make the most of it and become future leaders in AI technology.
