Ethiopian ambassador holds talks with President of New Dev’t Bank
Addis Ababa, March 17, 2025 (FMC) — Ambassador Tefera Derbew, Ambassador of Ethiopia to China, paid a courtesy call on Ms. Dilma Rousseff, the President of the New Development Bank (NDB) and the former President of Brazil, at the NBD Shanghai Headquarters on March 17, 2025.
The meeting was focused on Ethiopia’s ongoing application for membership in the NDB, the Embassy of Ethiopia in Beijing disclosed.
During their discussions, Ambassador Tefera expressed his sincere appreciation for the unwavering support provided by the President and her dedicated team, which has been instrumental in facilitating the application process.
He reflected on the constructive conversations held earlier between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and NDB President Dilma Rousseff last year, noting that these prior exchanges had established a strong foundation for the current discussions.
The Ambassador highlighted the significant need for Ethiopia to secure membership in the NDB, underscoring that a wide range of diplomatic engagements undertaken by the Ethiopian government had successfully garnered support from many member states of the NDB in support of Ethiopia’s application.
NDB President Dilma Rousseff, on her part, acknowledged the efforts made by the Ethiopian government in rallying support from the member countries of the NDB.
She assured Ambassador Tefera of her intention to advocate for Ethiopia’s cause among member states. The NDB President also pointed out the procedural necessity of members involvement.
