Ethiopian Airlines announces change in payment for tickets policy
Addis Ababa, July 10, 2016 (FBC) – Ethiopian Airlines has announced change in payment for tickets policy, stating that passenger tickets for flights originating outside of Ethiopia must be purchased in the currency of the country where the passenger begins the journey, or hard currency, regardless of the place of ticket purchase.
In an official statement issued this afternoon, the Airline responded to recent speculations on social media networks regarding the matter.
In that regard, the Airline said this change is in line with a new directive from the National Bank of Ethiopia and applies to all airlines operating in Ethiopia.
For tickets originating from Ethiopia; Ethiopians and foreigners with a Resident Permit, Work Permit, Diplomatic ID, or Yellow Card issued by the Ethiopian government can still purchase tickets in local currency (ETB).
However, foreigners buying their ticket in Ethiopian should pay in hard currency, the Airline further stated.
