Ethiopia, UAE agree to work together in civil aviation
Addis Ababa, March 16, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authorities of Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on strategic issues.
The MoU was signed by the Director General of Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, Getachew Mengstie, and the Director General of United Arab Emirates Civil Aviation Authority, Saif Mohamed.
It is said that the MoU will boost Ethiopia’s aviation industry to a better height and is part of the growing multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement will also help the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority to deliver its services through digital technology. Especially it will enable the authority to transform the services provided to the pilots into electronic service, it is noted.
It includes the basic agendas of the two authorities in building the capacity of education and training, establishing an operational licensing and control system pertaining to drone technology, and enabling them to work together in various international forums.
The Director General of the United Arab Emirates Civil Aviation Authority, Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, said that his office will provide technical support to the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority’s plan to establish an African Safety Excellence Center and to develop the sector in general.
He is confident that the Center of Safety Excellence to be established will help to further enhance aviation safety in Africa, according to the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority.
The UAE delegates held talks with Ethiopian Minister of Transport and Logistics, Alemu Simie. They also visited various infrastructures in Ethiopian Airlines.
