Ethiopia, UAE agree to cooperate combating of cross-border crimes
Addis Ababa, October 14, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation led by Federal Police Commissioner General Demelash Gebre-Michael visited the United Arab Emirates Police Department in Abu Dhabi.
The delegation was received by the Inspector General of the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates and the current President of the International Police Institute (INTERPOL), Major General Ahmed Nasir Al-Raisi, at Dubai International Airport.
The delegates discussed with Major General Ahmed Nasir Al-Raisi on the possibility of capacity building training by the Interpol Virtual Academy in collaboration with the Ethiopian Police University to strengthen the police capacity of the two countries.
They also discussed ways to jointly prevent and control cross-border criminal cases, especially those who loot national resources and flee to foreign countries.
In addition, they also talked through to further enhance the strategic partnership of the police institutions of the two countries through bilateral relations and cooperation.
Both sides agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding to work together on the issue.
Hence, a team from the Ethiopian Federal Police will return to Abu Dhabi soon to sign the MoU.
Maj.-Gen. Ahmed Nasir Al-Raisi praised the work of the Ethiopian Federal Police in cooperation with Interpol to prevent terrorism and other cross-border crimes.
FBC understands that the Maj.-Gen. promised to further strengthen the technological capacity and work cooperation with the Federal Police of Ethiopia.
General Demelash G/Michael, on his part, mentioned that the Ethiopian Federal Police is making technological transformation to prevent crime in advance and effectively investigate when it occurs and bring the suspects to justice.
He invited the Interpol president to attend the 24th East African Union of Police Chiefs Conference to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
As a result Maj.-Gen. Ahmed Nasser al-Raisi accepted the invitation and promised to attend the conference.
Commissioner General Demelash met also with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi and advised on various issues.
