Ethiopia, Turkmenistan vow to strengthen bilateral relations
Addis Ababa, December 10, 2024 (FMC) – Jemal Beker Abdula, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) Designated to Turkmenistan with residence in Islamabad presented his letter of credence to Dunyagozel Gulmanova, the Speaker of Parliament of Turkmenistan, on December 09th, 2024.
Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula, who is currently in Ashgabat on a working visit, presented his credentials to the Speaker during a ceremony held at the Parliament of Turkmenistan.
Dunyagozel Gulmanova, the Speaker of Parliament of Turkmenistan, welcomed the Ambassador and conveyed good wishes of the Government and the people of Turkmenistan for the prosperity and development of Ethiopia.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed full spectrum of the bilateral relations and explored new areas of bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation to further advance their common goals of shared prosperity and development of their people.
In his remarks, Ambassador Jemal, on behalf of the Government of Ethiopia, extended greetings to the Government of Turkmenistan as well as good wishes for its prosperity and development.
He briefed the Speaker about the foreign policy reforms undertaken by the Government of Ethiopia to further increase its outreach for partnerships with sisterly countries including Turkmenistan.
He also briefed her about comprehensives reforms carried out in the political, economic, social and legal spheres to chart the country on the path of progress and development by addressing macroeconomic imbalances, increasing productivity, attracting foreign direct investment, and creating massive job opportunities in Ethiopia.
The Ambassador informed the Speaker about the firm resolve of the Government of Ethiopia, led by Abiy Ahmed (PhD), for further integrating the region by ensuring peace and stability and sharing its resources.
He specifically highlighted the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) which was constructed on the basis of the principle of equitable and reasonable utilization of resources, and also with the vision to share with neighboring countries in the region.
On top of that, the Ambassador said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched the Green Legacy Initiative to address climate change issues through the initiatives of afforestation, environmental restoration and food insecurity.
The Ambassador reiterated his government’s commitment to strengthen its relations with Turkmenistan by enhancing bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation to the higher level.
On the other hand, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, the Speaker of Parliament of Turkmenistan, appreciated the consistent economic growth achieved by Ethiopia under the leadership of Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
She said the Government of Turkmenistan looks forward to further strengthen the bilateral relations with Ethiopia including the Parliamentary cooperation.
