Ethiopia, Turkiye enhance collaboration in trade, education & culture, says AK Deputy Chairperson

Addis Ababa, February 1, 2025 (FMC) – Zafer Sırakaya, Deputy Chairperson of Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), spoke at the Second Congress of Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party on Friday. Zafer Sırakaya conveyed greetings from Turkey’s President and his party leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to President Dr. Abiy Ahmed and all attendees.

Zafer Sırakaya expressed gratitude to Dr. Abiy Ahmed for his speech, stating that fulfilling his points would lead to a prosperous Ethiopia, which in turn would benefit the Horn of Africa and the continent as a whole. AK’s Deputy Chairperson wished Dr. Abiy Ahmed and the people of Ethiopia success and prosperity.

Speaking about the significance of the gathering, Zafer said it was an exceptional opportunity for the parties to strengthen their shared values, common vision, and cooperation. He highlighted the enduring ties between Türkiye and Ethiopia, emphasizing the shared commitment to mutual respect and a shared vision for the future.

Sırakaya commended Ethiopia’s unique place in African history, its rich culture, and its heroic fight for sovereignty, which has inspired nations worldwide. He highlighted the strong historical bonds between Türkiye and Ethiopia, dating back to the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid the Second, and the opening of the Turkish embassy in Addis Ababa in 1926.

Turkiye and Ethiopia have strengthened their ties over the years, with cooperation in trade, education, and culture, he said. AK Party respects the people of Ethiopia and the African continent, and Türkiye’s commitment to Africa’s development complements its belief in regional cooperation.

Zafer emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, calling for efforts to prevent conflicts that undermine harmony in the region. He reiterated that diplomacy is essential, and war should never be a solution, as it leaves only destruction and generational pain behind.

Türkiye and Ethiopia will continue to work together for the well-being of their people and for global peace and justice, Zafer concluded, extending his gratitude to those who organized the congress. He expressed Türkiye’s unwavering friendship and solidarity with Ethiopia, ensuring that their bond will remain strong through challenges and triumphs alike.
