Ethiopia to showcase reforestation and sustainable land practices at COP29

Addis Ababa, November 11, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia will highlight its dedication to reforesting degraded lands and implementing sustainable land use practices during the ongoing COP29 conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Ethiopian delegation has arrived at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, where key discussions will revolve around strategies for reducing global greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing financial support for climate initiatives, and fostering sustainable climate solutions. Major topics for this year include energy supply sources, human development, food security, and biodiversity.

Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative, which places significant emphasis on sectors such as agriculture, eco-tourism, and renewable energy, is playing an instrumental role in combating climate change. The country plans to present its efforts in restoring deforested areas and promoting sustainable land management practices during the conference.

Ethiopia aims to use COP29 as a platform to advance climate protection initiatives and establish partnerships. The delegation is also dedicated to advocating for increased support to assist developing nations in their efforts to mitigate climate change.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Development, this year’s conference theme is “In Solidarity for a Green World,” underscoring the collective responsibility toward environmental sustainability.
