Ethiopia to hold first National Internet Governance Forum in August

Addis Ababa, July 28, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopia has finalized preparations to hold its first national Internet Governance Forum on August 4, 2022, according to Ministry of Innovation and Technology.

The Innovation and Technology Minister, Belete Molla (PhD), in a press briefing said the national event is part of the 17th Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Ethiopia is preparing to host in the coming December.

The forum will be hosted in hybrid format accommodating participation of stakeholders present onsite in Addis Ababa and online.

According to the Minister, the forum will discuss major agenda topics such as “Social and Economic Benefits of Internet, “Equitable and Meaningful Internet Access” and “Access of Internet as Basic Rights”, among others.

The 17th IGF, under the overarching theme Resilient Internet for a Shared Sustainable and Common Future, will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 28 November to 2 December 2022.
